Homework Club

Homework Club is a chance for kids to come out and get some help with their schoolwork. It's a chance to get some one-on-one help from older students and other adults who love to teach.

Oftentimes, there are basic building blocks that we miss along the way in our schooling. It might have been some math concept in Grade 3 that we missed, which made Grade 4 a little harder, and Grade 5. And by the time Grade 6 came along, the student is so confused, they don't even know where to start asking questions. Plus, they've given up that they ever could really learn it.

This is where one-on-one tutoring helps. Often, all we need is someone to sit with us and walk us through a problem a few times - without any pressure of having to move on before we're ready.

Many of us have also found that as our kids move on in the system, we no longer can help them with their homework. Grade 9 math is nothing that we remember. We took French so long ago (literally decades!!!) that there's no way that we can help them conjugate in the Passe Compose!! Or maybe our child just needs to practice reading with someone. Or maybe it's science or English grammar, essay-writing, or Geography. Whatever it is, we'd like to offer help in the way of tutoring.

The Students

Students can be from grades 3 to grade 12. Everyone is welcome from all schools anywhere.

You can drop in any time after school for some help. If you have a specific subject that you are struggling with, give us a call ahead of time so that we can make sure we have the right people here to give you a hand.

Benefits for Students

  • A chance to get one-on-one help with anything that you are struggling with
  • Get those missing "building blocks" that might be missing that are getting in the way of your progress.
  • Even if you don't have a specific problem, you can drop in and do your homework knowing that there is someone here that can help if you run into anything

The Tutors

Our tutors come from a number of places.

  • Katrina Bos: Katrina loves to tutor. With an honours degree in Math from Waterloo, teaching math is definitely her passion.
  • Community Members who love to help out and volunteer their time.
  • High School Students: This is a chance for students who love to help others learn to teach other kids and their hours spent tutoring will count towards their Community Service hours for their diploma.

Depending on the students who are looking for help, we will find the right tutors to fit their needs.
