What is Hatha Yoga?

The purpose of yoga is to bring us to balance. The practice of yoga helps to release tension and bring us to a state that is both energized and relaxed.

Hatha Yoga is probably the most familiar form of yoga practiced in the west.

Hatha Yoga involves combining physical postures, (asana) with breathing, (pranayama) energy locks, (Bandhas) and meditation to open, strengthen and purify the body.

  • For your body; to stretch and tone muscles, release chronic tension, improve circulation, feel energized and refreshed.
  • For your mind; to find a place of calm and stillness, improve concentration; build self-confidence and self-awareness.
  • For your spirit; to reconnect with yourself, encourage self-acceptance, renew compassion towards yourself and others.

Yoga Class suggestions:

  • Arrive Early. Arriving at class about 10 minutes early will help you settle in and prepare for class.
  • Practice on an empty stomach or eat very lightly 1 or 2 hours before
  • Wear loose comfortable, clothing
  • Bring a bottle of water
  • Respect your limits, advise your teacher of any injuries or conditions that might affect your practice. If you are tired or injured skip poses that are too challenging or practice a modification of the pose
